I am a graduate from a Liberal Arts College where I achieved my Bachelor of Arts in K-12 Music Education. Yet, my interests do not solely stay within music. I also really love to cook, bake, hike, walk, bike, drink coffee, read books, share conversations with people...you know...the little things in life. I have long believed that there are certain things that people can do that, in some way, seem to extend their understanding of humanity.
Now, I'm not saying that some humans are better than others - I'm just saying that there are some things that I have found to do that seem to make me appreciate life a little bit more (okay, a lot bit more). Those things I have already listed for you, but condensed they are: music/the arts, food, drink, outdoors, and relationships.
This website has been created to log my personal endeavors as I train myself and my dog, Koda, to hike the Triple Crown (hopefully within 5 years' time). I will include updates about how things are going, information on hikes that I have done, a catalog of hikes that I want to do, and a few other miscellaneous items that I find interesting. If you enjoy reading this blog and are interested in finding out more about what makes a girl from the Upper Great Plains tick....check out my personal blog.
About Koda:
Koda is my (recently adopted) dog. He is, well, he's a mutt. The funny thing about mutts is that, once you tell someone your dog is a mystery, they all have ideas on what he could be. So far, the most common breeds we've heard are: Weimaraner, Greyhound, Sight-hound, Lab, and German Short Hair Pointer.
His back-story, as far as I have been told, isn't entirely positive. He was born in an unwanted litter which was then brought into the area Humane Society. From there he was adopted and brought to a home which kept him outside on a lead all day. He wasn't socialized with people hardly at all and was pretty severely neglected. He was then brought back in to the Humane Society because was chewing through the lead and running away. When the Humane Society folks assessed him, they enrolled him in the Paroled Pups program, which sends dogs that need to work on certain skills (in his case, socialization) to the Penitentiary where inmates work with them. It's a win-win situation.
One day, as I was perusing the Humane Society's website, I noticed the Paroled Pups tab and clicked on it. What can I say, I'm a sucker for the puppy face. I set up a meeting with the Humane Society and met this fella. I asked them to please neuter him for me and planned on adopting him within a week.
When Koda was neutered, the Society didn't think it was necessary to put an E-Collar on him, so he licked his wound. He continued to lick until the stitches were gone and his entire area was infected. I took him to an awesome vet friend who cleaned him up and sent him home. So 2 weeks after I adopted this guy and he FINALLY gets out of the E-Collar.
Outside of a few chewed up things, it's been cake ever since. He continues to show more and more affection each day. He also shows a ridiculous amount of intelligence, which can lead easily into boredom....hence the chewed up things.
